Lokean Compass Program

Become a student at Loki University and design your own Lokean practice

(Currently under Reconstruction - 1st course available!)

Our Lokean Compass Program, designed for students interested in learning about Loki and developing their own spiritual practice, consists of three key elements:

  • The three Foundations (FND) courses provide an in-depth introduction to Loki in a tiered approach, where FND 101 offers a general overview, FND 102 provides myth interpretation technique to allow a mid-range perspective, and FND 103 focuses on the minutia of Loki’s roles in the Eddas and the complex nuance of the Eddaic literature to provide a microscopic perspective.

  • The five Polytheism (PTM) courses provide a combined theoretical and practical approach to spiritual practice for modern polytheists. Students will learn how to distinguish between ingrained monotheistic thought patterns, how to view the world through a polytheistic lens, and how modern polytheism differs from common pagan practices/traditions. The Polytheism courses are split into two sections:

Section 1 Classes include PTM 101, 102, and 103, where students will learn the theory/theology of modern polytheism in PTM 101 and how to approach Loki through prayers, offerings, and rituals in the practical component provided in PTM 102 and 103.

Section 2 Classes include PTM 201 and 202. In PTM 201, students will learn about gnosis, the controversies surrounding it, and how to discern and develop their own personal approaches to gnostic experiences. In PTM 202, students will learn about some of the myriad aspects of Loki.

  • The Electives offered allow students to enhance their own spiritual practice by choosing one of the following sets of elective classes:

Creative Project (CRP) electives allow students to engage in more hands-on projects, and these are best for those who feel strongly pulled to any of Loki’s creative aspects. In CRP 101, students will build altars, in CRP 102, ritual supplies, and in CRP 103, ritual cloths.

Media (MED) electives allow students to engage in pop culture and how Loki’s presence in several artistic mediums fits into Lokean practice. In MED 101, students engage with music, in MED 102 with films/movies, and in MED 103, with books – especially fiction.

Runes (RNE) electives allow students to engage in the study of runes, a path best suited for those who feel called to one of Loki’s aspects involving sigils, speech, and magic. In RNE 101, students will learn the history of the runes, in RNE 102, how to cast and interpret the runes, and in RNE 103, how to perform rune magic.

Scholarly Exploration (SLY) electives allow students to engage in an academically rigorous exploration of Loki as well as learn the necessary tools/arguments to defend against those who disparage/scorn Lokean practice. In SLY 101, students learn what the widespread misperceptions of Loki are and how to counter them, then in SLY 102 and SLY 103 learn what makes Loki similar and what makes him different from trickster deities of other cultures/pantheons.

While it is recommended that students choose one of the four available sets of electives and complete all in that set, students may mix electives as long as the proper prerequisites are met. Similarly, students are only required to take a total of three electives, but students may take as many electives as they want.

Completion Requirements

To complete the Lokean Compass Program, a student must meet the following requirements:

  • Students must take and pass all 8 core courses
